Karen studied music from a young age and has privately trained in voice at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto since 1998. She has performed in a number of well known mezzo soprano roles, such as Dorabella, from Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, Carmen from Bizet’s Carmen, Orpheus from Gluck’s Orphée et Euridice, Prince Orlofsky from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, and Donna Elvira from Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Other recital roles have included Cherubino and the Countess Almaviva from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Charlotte from Massenet’s Werther, Dalila from Saint-Saën’s Samson et Dalila, and Mrs. Peachum from Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera. Karen has very much enjoyed this opportunity to explore the music of Finland and is delighted to participate in this evening’s performance given in support of U of T’s Finnish Studies Program, of which she was once a student.
