October Many of us are in awe of the mysteries presented by the vast depths of the night sky. But did you know that somewhere up in the sky is an asteroid called Innanen? It is named for one of our own Canadian Friends of Finland members, Dr. Kimmo Innanen, a Finnish-Canadian astronomer, in appreciation of his 30 years of collaborative Canadian-Finnish research. You will all have an opportunity to learn first hand of his exciting discoveries by attending: Dr. Innanen will describe, in non-technical terms, the results of two successful Canadian-Finnish research projects: The Trojan campaign and the Kapteyns star. Do join us for this fascinating lecture on: Dr. Innanen is a professor emeritus of York University where he was dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science (1986-1994). In 1995 he received an honourary doctorate from the University of Turku. He is one of York University's most distinguished scholars known for his ability to relate his complex topic to all audiences in a popular and uncomplicated manner. This event is FREE to all our members and their guests including their teenage children who share our fascination with space. We do request that you PLEASE RSVP so that we can prepare for the reception. Please leave a message at the CFF answering service: |
